Privacy

We never ask who you are

Town Solutions has no accounts. It does not ask for your name, email, phone number or street address. It has no analytics services and no tracking cookies, and its fonts and its own scripts come from this site. The home, How it works and Pricing pages show one small ad from adengine.us, WeldonPC's own ad network: that ad is the only thing any page loads from another site (see Advertising). Your calendar's pages, the start page and the privacy and terms pages show no ad.

What a calendar holds

  • The routines you type (names, notes, days and dates), the calendar's optional name, its time zone and holiday settings.
  • When it was made and changed, and the date it was last opened or fetched by a calendar app.
  • The database keeps only a one-way fingerprint (SHA-256) of your private link, which is enough to recognize the link and not enough to rebuild it. The server's access logs are another matter: see "Addresses and logs" below.

Please do not type a full street address or anyone's personal details into a name or note: nothing here needs them.

Cookies

The home page and the information pages set no cookies. Pages with a form set one security cookie (__Host-ts_csrf) that proves a form came from this site; it holds a random value and nothing about you.

Addresses and logs

To limit abuse, the site counts how many calendars each internet address, and the network it belongs to, starts per hour and per day. It stores a salted fingerprint of the address, not the address, and deletes the counters after three days.

Like every web server, the server that runs this site records each request (internet address, time, page address) in its access logs. A calendar's own pages have its private link in their address, and the live feed and the view-only page have the feed key in theirs, so the server's access logs record the address of every page requested, these links included. The hosting software keeps the access logs for up to about two months, and keeps the traffic statistics it makes from them, which can also list page addresses, with no set end date. Only WeldonPC can read them, and uses them only for security and troubleshooting. The site's own error log masks private links.

Advertising

The home page, the How it works page and the Pricing page show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. A calendar's own pages (its board, prints, phone page, view-only page and feed), the start page, and the privacy and terms pages show no ad.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your internet address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests. The ad also counts one page view per page, kept only as a daily total for this site.

  • No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
  • How your internet address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your internet address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
  • What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (internet address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
  • Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
  • Nothing about you is sold or shared.

Deleting

Delete your calendar at any time from the bottom of its page: its routines, settings and feed address go at once (if it has a Household Pass that PayPal still renews, cancel the Pass in PayPal first). A calendar nobody opens or fetches for 400 days is deleted automatically, unless it has Household Pass time left or a Pass that still renews. Database backups are kept for up to 14 days. Copies made when the site's software is updated are kept on the server until later updates replace them, and WeldonPC also keeps a copy of each on its own backup storage, with no set end date. All of them are used only to restore the service.

Payments

Payment is not switched on (preview). When it is, PayPal will handle it: this site will receive PayPal's subscription number and status for your calendar, never your card details.
